The workers demanded re running the trains and the bus services has also been halted reportedly. Since there is no means for them to travel to their workplace this protest took place. Currently the Mumbai local is only allowed for essential service staff and government run office staff.

Earlier, the state government also denied the permission for lawyers to commute via Mumbai locals after a plea was filed in High Court by Lawyers. And mentioned that it is only restricted to essential staffers for now.

Mumbai's local trains unlike any other state's rail transport is the lifeline of the city. The locals have always been the most used and convenient mode of transport for millions to travel to work daily. Due to lockdown following Covid-19 crisis, Mumbai locals had to shut down. However, since the steps to open up the economy is being considered by the Government, it is significant to also consider and work out a solid plan to reopen the locals for general public.
