AIIMS Gives A Go Ahead to Human Clinical Trials for Covaxin

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi is looking forward to calling for volunteers to start the human clinical trials of a vaccine candidate for Covid-19 called Covaxin. AIIMS Delhi is going to enroll people between the age group of 18 to 55 years with no Covid-19 background and who do not have any comorbidities. 

Begining from Monday, the human clinical trials will start considering the background health check. The decision to begin the human trials came in effect after the Ethics Committee of AIIMS approving of the same. ICMR has finalised 12 institutions which are allowed by the association to conduct phase 1 and 2 trials of the Covid-19 vaccine.

AIIMS will take in around 375 people and will select 100 out of those for the trial and the remaining will be utilised for another area. Having said that, from Monday 20th July 2020 onwards, few people already selected will go through health screening before vaccine is given to them. 

Apart from Covaxin there are few more vaccines under human trials Zydus Cadila's - ZyCov - D has got a nod from Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for human trials. Bharat Bitotec On 15th July already started the human trials for Covaxin.
