3 to 6 Lakhs Spent on New Railway Coaches

As a part of measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19, Indian Railways has spent 6 Lakhs on the upgradation of per Non AC Coach and an amount of 3 Lakhs per AC Coach. The elements have been added to ensure safe mode of transportation due to Covid-19 crisis.

Indian Railways is also considering to go for low cost equipments in order to maintain sanitation in the railway coaches in the post Covid-19 era.

The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala has recently manufactured two such coaches. Both AC and Non AC Coaches have been made keeping Covid-19 crisis in mind. The coaches is equipped with Foot Operated Sanitisers, toilet flushes, dispensers, etc. These are managed by io forearm and copper coated handrails, these help is stopping the infection to spread to others while in use.

The coaches also have Plasma air machinery in the duct to help prevent spread of the infection. Also Indian Railways is carrying on research within the internal department to identify low cost alternatives to maintain safety while assuring transportation for general public.


Indian Railways has been on the forefront from the beginning while transporting migrants at the start of the crisis and running special trains now. However the complete reopening of rail operations is still yet to be done. The same is stated to be open post mid August.
